I am 22 year old female, diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At the time of my diagnosis, they found some nodules on my thyroid but they were biopsied and found to be benign. This was 2 years ago. Lately, I ve had quite a few sore throats and coughs but figured it was due to cold and flu season. I also just noticed in the last few days that I was getting another sore throat but this time, my throat felt swollen to the touch. Still figuring it was a cold, I didn t do anything. But tonight I coughed up a red, bloody clot. Since then, I ve been clearing my throat and finding little traces of red or pink in my spit. Is this something that I should be so concerned about that I should seek immediate medical help? Or do I need to seek any medical help?
Repeated sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, lump felt through the skin over the neck, swollen neck lymph nodes, change voice may be due to thyroid enlargement or malignancy.
But blood in the sputum may be due to pharyngitis, bronchitis or gingival bleed etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.
Avoid cool drinks and freeze water avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.
Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week.
If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query.
