What Causes Cramping, Nausea And Pain After Intercourse?
hi there, I had sex with my husband last night, and he ejaculated inside me (we are trying for a baby). about 30 minutes later, I started experiencing cramping and nausea, this made me unable to sleep. 8 hours later I still feel the same pain. This has never happened before, and we have been actively trying to get pregnant for 3 months now. I did also take some painkillers for headache last night. 60mg of codeine and 2 anadin tabs. I have taken these before and never ecperienced this. Its like the period cramping I used to get before I had my daughter 6 years ago. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
There are substances in semen, called prostaglandins, that can cause uterine contractions and nausea. This is actually designed to bring the sperm up inside your uterus to meet with an egg so help conception. This does not happen every time a man ejaculates inside you but if you are close to ovulation or your period it is not unusual. You may not be used to this if you have not been having unprotected sex for a long time. The cramping itself will normally go away in 3-24 hours but painkillers can help and will not interfere with your chances of becoming pregnant.
I hope this adequately answered your question and good luck in conceiving!
Sincerely, Dr. Brown
