My mom had her thyroids totally removed years ago due to cancer. Now she takes calcium supplements synthyroid and calcitriol. What should I do? Go to the hospital?

Dear caring son
Cramps in hands both sides after thyroid removal might be due to hypocalcemia. Since thyroid glands were removed parathyroid are also usually removed along with it. Parathyroid glands secret pth which helps in maintaining serum calcium level. Your mother is taking calcitriol and thyroid supplements but no calcium supplements which puts her at risk for hypocalcemia. Please get her checked for serum calcium and phosphorus levels.please take visit to endocrinology specialist . Start giving tablet shelcal 500mg thrice a day on regular basis.
