i had salmonella poisioning around 2 months ago and a week or 2 after i came down with a virus and my doctor told me to take ibuprofen, which worked but now whenever i eat spicy food i get stomach cramps and they last for a few hours, so i went back to the doctor and he gave me buscopan which worked but then i developed severe constipation,anxiety and panic attacks so stopped taking them and now the anxiety,panic attacks and my bowels are moving im stuck with whenever i eat spicey food i get a cramp in the middle of my right side. can you help me
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Obviously when you are getting the cramps on eating spicy foods, you have to stop these altogether as prevention is better than cure. The commonest problems that are encountered after Salmonella infection is regaining the normal intestines and bacterial flora which may take a lot of time and you took Ibuprofen for flu that can cause gastritis and additional problems in an already existing conditions. Hence I would advise you the following in such a condition: First of all find the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems so that you stop these including the spicy foods as they are known to cause you the problems. Get the stool and blood tested as well as ultrasonography of the abdomen. Get an Upper GI Endoscopy and biopsy. Once diagnosed well get a course of a PPI like Omeprazole and antacids. Take probiotics, soft bland diet and your problems may stol.
