What Causes Cramps While Spotting?
Hello, three days ago I had sex for the first time in about a month and a half. I ve been sexually active for about 3 years now. This morning I had some small cramps and this evening I noticed that I was spotting. We did use a condom but I am not on birth control. I don t know if the condom broke or came off during intercourse or if everything went fine. Is there a chance I could be pregnant or are the symptoms of not having sex for a little while? Just would like to know if it s worth it to take a test or not and to figure out what to do from there!

I would have appreciated had you mentioned on which day of the cycle you had this episode of cramps with spotting.
On the day of egg release (ovulation), some amount of spotting along with cramps in abdomen is a known phenomenon. It is known as mittelschmerz. This requires no treatment; however if the pain is unbearable, some pain killer or anti-spasmodic pain killer may be taken.
Since you are not on any contraceptive protection except condom (which itself is a very good contraceptive device) and you are not sure about the rupture of the condom, you should have taken Postinor 2 like emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of the incidence. If the period has not lapsed, you may take it even now.
Now you have to wait for the menses to appear. If you miss your period, you may perform pregnancy test on the overnight early morning urine a week after missed period. Earlier, these tests may report false negative.
Alternatively, you may opt for Beta hCG test on the blood anytime after 10 days of this incidence. The values of hCG in non-pregnant state are 25 mIU/ml are diagnostic of pregnancy.
