What Causes Cushings Syndrome?

I am currently being tested for cushings syndrome. My husband and I both feel that this may be the mysterious illness that has been affecting my health for a while now. So far, we have only recieved the blood work back, we are still waiting on the 24 hour urine and saliva test. My blood work showed a high amount of calcium in my blood so we are wondering if Cushing's is off the table since it seems as though it is related to low levels of calcium instead?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
I read carefully your concern.
Regarding to Cushing's syndrome, it is an endocrine disorder characterized by excessive cortisol levels in the blood which may be the result of a tumor of the pituitary gland, adrenal glands (located above the kidneys) or from tumors or arising elsewhere in the body (ectopic ACTH producing tumors).
The first step in diagnosing Cushing syndrome is the confirmation of high cortisol level in urine or saliva.
You have no reason to get worried about the calcium level because is nit related to Cushing. Potasium level is low in Cushing syndrome.
Hope i have been helpful.
Wishing you good health!

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
