What Causes Dark Colored Mole On The Groin?

Hello - I have noticed a dark colored mole near my panty line, where my underwear comes into contact with my skin. It is not raised but it is quite dark and I'm honestly not sure how long it's been there. Also, I'm not sure if this something I should be overly concerned about or not. The thought of melanoma scares me because I know it is deadly if not caught on time, but it's hard to know if I'm overreacting. Any advice would be much appreciated.
