My friend and her boyfriend had done sexual stuff, and she took an Ipill because he had an orgasm. His sperm dropped on her. She took an Ipill after 3 or 4 hours of this happening. Its been a week, she has not gotten her period. Are there chances of her getting pregnant?
Thank you for your question and I will try to help.
First of all, if she had intercourse about one week before her period was due, then this was already at a point in the cycle where pregnancy was very unlikely. On top of that, emergency contraception reduces this risk further. The problem with emergency contraception is that it is a hormone that can disrupt the normal cycle. It will often delay the next period which is exactly what she is experiencing. She should take a pregnancy test exactly 2 weeks after this event and use backup protection in the meantime. Finally, she needs to get in to an OB/GYN to talk about options for birth control.
I hope that this helps and good luck! Dr. Tim
