What Causes Delay In Periods?

Hi doctor,

can any one please clear my doubt. am just 22 years old non married girl. i missed my periods for 7 days, and i had sexual contact with my boy friend after my previous periods. so i took the pregnancy test today moring ,the result is negative only. please clarify why my periods is delaying?
