What Causes Delayed Period With Negative Pregnancy Test Result?
Hi, I had sex on 7 july and took oral contraceptive pill within 72 hours. My period date was on 14 July. I got regular periods. I checked for pregnancy on 25 July, result was negative. Now my period date for month of august was due on 12 which got delayed by 4 days. What could be possible reasons? Plz rply
If you took the morning-after pill (I am assuming that is what you mean as regular oral contraceptives need to be taken every day), your cycle that follows can be delayed as a side-effect of the medication.
However, if you have had unprotected sex since July 25th, you still could be at risk for pregnancy. I would recommend repeating your pregnancy test at this time, and if you are not pregnant, you will likely get your period within a week or so.
So again in summary, the cycle following taking emergency contraception can be abnormal (either delayed or too early) in many women. You should do a pregnancy test just in case, however you will likely get your normal cycle within a week or so.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
