hello doctor, me n my bf had unprotected sex. my periods are irregular and we had sex one day before my date for periods that is on 2nd nov.and still my periods dint came. so am not getting whether this is due to irregular periods or am pregnant. can i take northisterone for bringing periods ? please help
Irregular periods are not unusual, and skipping even for a few months can happenl. If you have never found out why you have irregular periods, it would be a good idea to visit a GYN doctor sometime and have them do tests. Irregular levels of your thyroid hormone, or others made in your pituitary gland, can affect menstruation.
So I advise you to do a pregnancy test at least 3 weeks after your episode of unprotected sex, it should be positive by then if you are pregnant. If you are not, taking Norethindrone, or another type of progesterone, for a week to 10 days will make you get your period after you finish the medication and wait a few days. Please discuss the exact dosing and regimen with your treating doctor if you have not taken this medication before. Birth control pills can help you have a regular cycle and also prevent unintended pregnancy.
I hope this advice was helpful. Take care, Dr. Brown
