What Causes Delayed Periods?

I had normal periods on 1st April. I had physical Intimated with my partner but he didn t ejaculate inside me. In may I had spotting for around three days. Now I am due for my period which has been delayed. Did a home pregnancy test it came out negative. Please advise. What could be the reason for delayed periods.

Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. Home pregnancy tests read well when performed 3-7 days after the missed period using a fresh early morning sample of urine. Please repeat the test after a couple of days as suggested. If you wish to have an earlier and better clarification, please opt for the blood test. If negative, this delay in the period could mean hormone imbalance which needs further evaluation. A trans-vaginal/pelvic sonogram is helpful to plan further management if you do not see the period for another week. Hope this helps.
