Doctor,am 30 years old and wanted to find out ,am expected to deliver this august,bt cn my delievry be postponed to september, and how,wat reason cn i give my husband why date has bn posted, wat are the reasons why some pregnancies are postponed to a further date
Mother nature decides the date of delivery as per the safety of the baby and mother. Throughout the pregnancy, the baby is more safe in the uterus than outside. When the baby is fully matured and grown, the placenta and the intrauterine environment is not capable of nurturing the growing baby within the uterus and hence the delivery process starts.
The pregnancy is of 280 days. Thus the due date of the delivery is calculated as DD = Date of last menstrual period + 9 months + 7 days. Depending upon the condition of the baby and the maternal environment, this may vary from 3 weeks earlier to 1 week later. This span of one month is safe for the baby to deliver. Any delivery earlier than 37 weeks or later than 41 weeks is definitely risky for the baby. If you do not start natural delivery pains even 1 week after the DD, then active steps should be taken to institute the delivery.
So please do not try to postpone the date of delivery. In fact, mother nature will not let you do that, so leave it to her. You will start labour pains at the best time for the baby. If you have to undergo a planned caesarean delivery, the date should be near the due date of delivery.
I hope you got the message.
