What Causes Diarrhea And Fever?

My son returned from Costa Rica Saturday. He started having diarrhea yesterday, he s been sleeping most of today, eating very little, drinking water. He has a fever of 101. He s very fatigued. He also had an emergency appendectomy on May 10 (not sure it s related). He has complained of some chest pain as well.

Your son can have acute gastroenteritis like infection of stomach or upper intestine. He should get investigated with stool routine micro examination and occult blood test. Broad spectrum antibiotic course can be prescribed. ORS or other suitable electrolyte powder should be taken with water to maintain hydration and electrolyte balance. Attach your reports for giving more comment.I suggest you to consult physician for examination.
