What Causes Diarrhea And Mild Abdominal Discomfort?

Stomach flu 6 days ago. Emesis stopped after twenty four hours. I still have diarrhea, no appetite, four pound weight loss, lethergy, only low grade temp on second day. Mild abdominal discomfort upper right quadrant, more like a fullness. Stools are very pale in color. Went to doctor to make sure not dehydrated. Wbc normal at 7, k+ slight low, the only abnormal was ast and alt...61 and 117. All four kids sick prior to me but were over it in 24 hours..emesis only never diarrhea. Should I be concerned that I can t kick it and is it common for GI bug to bump up liver enzymes?

Hi,

You should do further work up in form of stool routine micro examination to check the presence of bacteria and pus cells.

The lost electrolyte in diarrhea fluid can lead to low potassium level. So take Vital Z or ORS powder with water daily to replenish lost electrolyte.

You can revert back with reports.

The infection can temporarily lead to liver enzymes elevation.

However, if yellow urine and discolouration present than rule out jaundice by bilirubin estimation as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
