Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the question of causes of
diarrhea in patients with
acute pancreatitis.
Also noted the history of recently admitted for acute pancreatitis, had CT scan and
ultrasound, got discharged, have elevated blood sugar levels and have diarrhea too, eating low fat, are
overweight and also taking blood pressure medications.
The causes are obviously the irritation that is caused by pancreatitis, having high sugar can cause diarrhea due to infection and intolerance to food as there may not be any pancreatic enzymes to digest the foods and beverages that you are taking.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Tests of blood sugar,
amylase and lipase, liver and kidney functions as a review to find out whether there is any derangement.
Tests of stool to see for any infection or intolerance. And to change to the foods that need less digestive enzymes.
Addition of pancreatic enzyme supplements with food can dramatically improve your condition.
You will also need multivitamins and probiotics.
Consult your Gastroenterologist for further management and investigations as needed.
