Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Diarrhea, Loss Of Appetite, Nausea And Calcium Levels To Drop?
After spending 3 days in the hospital, I ended up with severe diarrhea, loss of appetite, then nausea. I want on any antibiotics. My calcium dropped severely after having a thyroidectomy on the eighteenth of September. Could the new meds be causing this, or is it more likely a virus?
Hello..... After thyroidectomy, hypocalcemia is seen due to decrease in Parathyroid hormone. Some times hypocalcemia can cause diarrhea and vomiting. But in your case, you are also admitted in hospital for 3 days and you have taken some antibiotics so these drugs also can cause diarrhea. But I can not also deny the possibility of hospital acquired infection for diarrhea because you are admitted for more than 48 hours. So in my conclusion, most likely due to hypocalcemia then antibiotics then infective pathology.
Thank You
