Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 8.5 weeks post op from a total hysterectomy (laparoscopic and vaginal) I had stage 4 endometriosis and adenomyosis. I have ovulated twice and both times the pain has been severe and I have had diarrhoea and vomiting, is this normal post op? I am only 35 years old, have three young children, work and find being sick very hard to deal with.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since you were operated for Endometriosis and Adenomyosis by Laparoscopic hysterectomy, the ovary are still active and have not been removed hence the cause can be: Endometriosis of the pelvic cavity still active and most probably hormone dependant thus causing the pain during ovulation. Another possibility is about having pelvic inflammation that has not yet settled and thus causing reactionary diarrhea and vomiting. Another reason can be Gastroenteritis that developed due to faulty food habits or an intestinal infection or food poisoning. I would advise you the following in such a situation: CT scan of the whole abdomen including pelvis can be of help to get an appropriate diagnosis an a plan of management.
