What Causes Diarrhea While On Amlodipine, Simvastatin And Plavix?
I just ii just had a slight episode of diarrhea.....not watery, just came sooner than usual. It might be yesterday s meatloaf from a soul food place,,but my husband and daughter did not get it. I am taking 1. Amlopidine 2. Plavix 3.Simvistatin.I have heard that one of these (?) might cause diarrhea. Can you advise? Thanks.

Mild diarhhea is highly likely the side effect of simvastatin. Amlodipin and plavix may also cause diarrhea but it is very rare. Statin induced diarrhea is also more common in females compared to males. There are several ways that you can effectively control simvastatin induced diarrhea.
-Avoid caffeine or alcohol.
-Take simvastatin in the evening meal.
-Stop taking the pills for 1-2 weeks. If diarrhea goes away it is most likely related to the statin.
-Some foods may also cause diarrhea in certain individuals. Try to identify those foods and avoid them.
If you continue having diarrhea regardless of these measures you may need to consult your doctor to decrease the dose or to change to another statin medicine.
