What Causes Difficulty In Breathing While On Zyrtec?
My 15 year old son (6 6 /304 lbs.) was lifting weights on Monday as part of a usual workout. He was about a third of the way into his workout when he began to have difficulty breathing and described it as feeling like he was breathing through a straw . He said that he had a sharp pain in his chest that later transformed into a heaviness on his chest. He felt like he was going to vomit and was challenged by even trying to drink water. He also had a rash pop up on his wrist over the previous weekend. One doctor that we saw thought it might be an allergic reaction and prescribed zyrtec and singulair. Still uncertain, with the continued feeling of breathing through a straw, we went to an allergist. He didn t agree with the first doctor about the allergic reaction and saw no signs indicating that possibility. He had him do a breathing test that resulted in normal breathing function. He didn t see any indication of asthmatic symptoms/concerns. He did prescribe an inhaler in the event that this would happen again. He indicated that my son should use the inhaler and if it did provide relief, we would revisit the asthma possibility. He also indicated that it was possibly an esophogeal spasm. This morning my son still felt unable to breathe normally. He used the inhaler and there was no improvement. He texted me about thirty minutes ago indicating that he is still having difficulty breathing and feels worn out after any physical movement (going from class to class). He doesn t typically complain unless he truly has an issue. I m at a loss of where to go to determine what his diagnosis would be. Any direction you could provide would be appreciated.
please visit a cardiologist. this could be a sign of heart problems (if the lungs are clear as told by you) also ask him to avoid heavy exercise for now get a stress test ECG done and a 2D echo to detect abnormalities. dont panic but don't delay just make it as soon as possible.
