Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes I am having difficulty swallowing. I have had heartburn and indigestion problems over the years. Just started and I just wondered if there was something to do before going to local doctors. I am 62 and in pretty good health. Weight is normal and I don't smoke or drink.
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that difficulty in swallowing is called Dysphagia and most commonly caused by Gastroesophageal reflux that can include symptoms like heart burn and indigestion. Frequency depends on severity of GERD.
Reflux of stomach acids into your esophagus can irritate your throat. Kindly avoid citrus fruits and juices, fried foods, alcohol, caffeinated beverages etc and take over the counter antacids like Prilosec.
Kindly consult with Gastroentrologist for evaluation of Barrett’s esophagus, and esophageal strictures.

Kindly take over the counter antacids like Prilosec to minimize the acid reflux. Also consult with a Gastroentrologist for physical and diagnostic evaluation of Easophageal Strictures and Barret's Esophagus .
