What Causes Difficulty In Urinating While On A Catheter?

I m a61 year old m as le who got out of the hospital a week ago. I did have a trolley catheter in while there. Now, every time I stand up I have the worst need to urinate but it feels like I have to focus on relaxing instead of straining. And some urine does pass but suddenly stops and I have to keep repeating the process. Could this b we a UTI?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, this might be due to UTI.

But check for your prostate size too by doing USG abdomen and pelvis.

By doing this investigation, we can get to know weather you have cystitis (bladder infection) or prostatomegaly .

Catheter induced UTI is also common.

Do the investigation. Urine routine and microscopy and urine culture and sensitivity.

Take the medicines accordingly or else you can consult us with the above reports.

Advice:

Drink lots of water, you can have syrup Cital if u have burning micturation.

Thank you.

Hope this will help you
