Hi welcome to HCm
I have gone through your query regarding difficulty in walking in your mother with parkinson's disease since 7-8 years . It is a matter of concern ,no doubt .
PD mainly develops in people over the age of 50. It becomes more common with increasing age. About 5 in 1,000 people in their 60s, and about 40 in 1,000 people in their 80s have PD. It affects both men and women but is a little more common in men.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic (persistent, or long-term) disorder of part of the brain. It is named after the doctor who first described it. It mainly affects the way the brain co-ordinates the movements of the muscles in various parts of the body.
The main symptoms of Parkinson's disease are usually
stiffness, shaking (
tremor), and slowness of movement ,
And the most important factor which influences and drags us to above symptoms is reduced physical and mental activity level due to age .
Dear ,for your info ,the name of the disease is not important to prescribe a medicine it is the symptoms which are considered to be cured .
And further , gulping on only medicines will not help cure , unless life style and food habits are modified .
I would like to suggest you stay as active as possible. Exercise regularly as much as you are able.Stretching and flexibility exercises can help to relieve stiff muscles, improve flexibility, and make everyday tasks easier: This may not be possible when the condition is more advanced, but it is something to consider when symptoms are not too bad. You may walk more slowly than before, but a daily walk is good exercise and may help to loosen up stiff muscles.
Eat a nutritionally balanced diet that contaiing all essential nutrients -- plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains high in fiber and drinking an adequate amount of fluids can help prevent
constipation that is common in Parkinson's disease.
Try not to move too quickly.
Aim for your heel to strike the floor first when you're walking.
If you notice yourself shuffling, stop and check your posture. It's best to stand up straight.
Look in front of you, not directly down, while walking .
Meditation. In meditation, you quietly reflect and focus your mind on an idea or image. Meditation may reduce
stress and pain and improve your sense of well-being.
Music or art therapy. Music or art therapy may help you to relax. Music therapy helps some people with Parkinson's disease to improve their walking and speech. Participating in art therapy, such as painting or ceramics, may improve your fine motor skills and strength and help you express your emotions.
Having a dog or cat may increase your flexibility and movement and improve your emotional health.
Following such few steps life can be made esier to live .
It is advised to see your surgeon for further guidance .
Hope this helps solves your query .Take care .All the best .Wish Get well soon .
Don't hesitate to come back in case of any further query .
