What Causes Difficulty In Walking When Suffering From Knee Pain?

I'm a 61 years old female with excruiting knee pain (right). About three months ago, I was rushing up a flight of stairs to catch the Marta train after work. no problem at that time, but I did feel and heard something from the knee. about three days later, there was the pain. I did go the emergency at the hospital, was given knee brace and crutches, orders to stay off feet for afew days, with afollow up with mr primsry doctor.haven't done so. However, I have a warehouse job and walking seems to help to a degree. But the excruiting pain set in, once I stop walking, and cant walk too heavily on that leg or jolt it. Bendin g is also a hurting thing .

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

At your age, there would be some amount of degenerative changes in the knee joint. Based on your description, I suspect that you might have possibly injured either the meniscal cartilage or the cruciate ligaments inside the knee joint, which is producing severe pain during activities.

An MRI scan of the symptomatic knee will define the nature and severity of damage to the intraarticular structures. The definitive management depends on the condition diagnosed.

So, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon and follow their advice accordingly.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
