General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your Mother in law, stage IV colon cancer, operated, liver, uterus and colon removed and on medications like Stivarga, Tramadol patch and water pills. But the distension of the abdomen and pain in abdomen continues.
The most probable cause is usually intestinal obstruction.
I would advise in such a case the following:
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography to start with and if required CT scan of the abdomen.
She may need a conservative treatment for 3 days and if no relief, needs surgery.
I find this answer helpful
