What Causes Difficulty Swallowing?

I m experiencing difficulty swallowing. I just noticed it a few hours ago. It s hard to explain. Do you know how you can feel the fluid go down your throat when you re, say, drinking a glass of water? When I drink a glass of water, I feel like the fluid is only going down one part of my throat, if that makes sense. I m also finding myself taking deep breaths a lot, and there this is heavy feeling in my throat. My mom brushed it off as an anxiety attack, which makes no sense because I have not been anxious. Please help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of difficulty in swallowing, feeling like liquid is going from one side of throat, Mother says this to be due to anxiety but you are not anxious.
Feeling of fluid going from one side of throat indicates a possibility of development of inflammation on that side in the initial period hence you are feeling it only and this can turn out to be pain and fever by tomorrow.
Hence It is important to get the following things done to avoid further complications:
Consult a Doctor and have proper clinical examination and if possible the endoscopy of throat to see if there is any inflammation.
If present you will be given an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and supportive medicines.
If everything is fine then keep observing and may be due to anxiety too, Mothers are usually not wrong in such predictions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
