What Causes Discoloration In Palms Of Hands And Soles Of Feet?
the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet (not as prominent as hands) are discolored to an orange color. It's been bothering a significant amount over the past year and I really want to resolve it. Years ago I are carrots frequently but do not eat them excessively anymore. I do eat sweet potatoes and carrots still but not that frequently enough to cause concern for cause. Please tell me this is able to be resolved! I am really upset by this and want to fix it more than anything.
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. The possibilities in your case includes a condition called as Carotenemia and localized palmoplantar keratoderma. Carotenemia occurs due to excessive consumption of Beta - carotene containing foods like carrots, pumpkin, etc. The orange color of beta carotene accumulates in the skin especially on palms and soles and leads to discoloration. It resolves slowly over a few months to years after the excessive consumption has been stopped. Localised palmoplantar keratoderma is associated with a familial tendency of thick skin on the palms and soles. Treatment includes creams containing salicylic acid to thin down the skin. Hope this helps you. Take care.
