What Causes Discomfort In Abdomen?

I have been developing some odd sensations in my abdomen over quite a few months. It feels a bit like a flight or fight response. It happens at night while sleeping (I m not sure if it happens when I wake up or if it is fact why I wake up...). Sometimes it lasts for awhile. And I often don t feel like eating. My life is super stressful these days (my daughter was diagnosed last fall with a chronic illness, I m a single parent working many hours a week, and we have a new puppy....) so I am hoping this is just stress. I m writing to you because this has gotten quite a bit worse over the last few weeks and it s a bit scary, thus adding to my stress levels.

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to accumulation of gas secondary to increased acid production in the stomach.
Stress further increases the acid production and hence aggravating your symptoms.
Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Pantoprazole preparation (to be taken twice a day before meals) & antacid gel (to be taken after meals).
They prevent formation of excess acid in the stomach & provide symptomatic relief.

And it is also needed that you take certain precautions regarding his diet & lifestyle:
1. Take soft, plain, non-spicy foods
2. Drink lots of water to maintain adequate hydration
3. Avoid fast foods & gas producing food products like cabbage, etc.
4. Avoid smoking & alcohol
5. Keep away stress, think positive.
6. Exercise regularly & practice meditation.

If symptoms still persist, kindly consult a Gastroenterologist for proper clinical examination.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
