What Causes Discomfort In The Buttocks Area While Being HSV Positive?
Hi. I am a 54 year old female in good health except I am HSV#2 positive for which I take valcyclovir. I also take progesterone and an estrogen patch. The last week I have been bleeding similiar to having a menstrual cycle. Although I have not had a regular period in about 3 years. I also have some discomfort in my buttocks which is similar to the discomfort I felt when my herpes was not being medicated. I have had some unprotected sex recently and am wondering if these symptoms could be related to an std or if it is due to the estrogen.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history, you are having fungal infection called as Tinea corporis. It is not related to herpes. My treatment advice is:
1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily. 2. Apply an antifungal cream like Clotrimazole cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medicine like Levocetrizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral Fluconazole, Itraconazole and Terbinafine to be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harshit Bhachech
