What Causes Discomfort In The Nose And Headaches Post Colonoscopy?
Hi, I had a colonoscopy yesterday morning. It went well, but soon after the procedure, I started sneezing a lot and by evening, my left nostril and left eye began running continuously. I was lying on my left side during the procedure. There is pain in my left nostril and I am feeling pretty miserable. I understand this may be a reaction to the drug, the plastic tubing for the oxygen or damage caused to my nasal cavity from the tube and/ or dryness cause by the oxygen. I have tried steaming and have managed to sleep a little. It is 24 hours later and I am still sneezing and my eye and left nostril are still running a lot. I have a headache and feel quite unwell. Is there anything I can do to feel better? Thank you! S
Nose irritation or continuous sneezing can be rarely have a relation with colonoscopy or even that oxygen catheter put inside nostril.
I have not seen this kind of allergy in any patient due to oxygen catheter.
It could be due to drug allergy or viral infection which might be right.
You must take some antiallergic medications like antihistamines (cetrizine or fexofenadine) with analgesics like diclofenac for relief from the headache.
It would also be better you should take antacids like pantoprazole or rabeprazole.
But be rested, this is not a big issue.Continue with your steam inhalation which would give great relief.
