Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Displacement Of Screw After Humerus Surgery?
My friend broke her humerus. 2 plates were surgically put in with screws. After 6 weeks, x-ray shows a screw has moved. Dr said she has crummy bones. She has to have another x-ray in 1 month. No more rehab. Her flexibility is great, remarkable, no problems with that, and no pain. She is disappointed. What causes this? Will she have to have more surgery.
There is no need of disappointment. Screw usually does not comes out unless either technique was faulty or there was something wrong with bones. If there is no pain, good movement then a single screw is not going to change. If there is any displacement of other screws and plate then she might need a repeat surgery. If there is no change then she should continue this and soon her fracture will be united and then this plat can be removed. I would also recommend you to not to do physiotherapy aggressively as sometime it can put extra pressure on the plate.
