Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 62, 5'6", 165 pounds, good health. Live in Chicago but visiting in Denver since july 4. Have walked for one hour each on July 5, 6 and 7 but only today have I experienced dizzyness and light-headedness after the walk. The dizzyness is gone but I am still light-headed. Could it be the altitude and what can I do to correct? We hope to go even higher in the mountains tomorrow for a couple of hours. Thanks for any help!
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. As the altitude increases, the oxygen becomes thinner. 2. Respiratory difficulty increases. The RBC count is adequate for oxygen at lower levels. It would take time for body to adjust to higher altitudes. You must have seen people climbing mountains carrying oxygen cylinder, its like that. 3. Move slowly, avoid falling. Do not take extra stress, not good at that height. Relax and adjust. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
