What Causes Dizziness And Blackouts?

Hi my name is Cindy and for the past 2 years I have been dealing with lightheadedness, things going black for a few seconds, knees shaking to the point of collapsing, shaking what I call brain flutters, and weakness. I have pretty much lost my independence because I am afraid to drive, I have had these black out things while driving. My PCP has had me in for a CT scan, MRI, brain scan and I have had my heart checked, I did have a positive diagnosis of Lyme disease and they gave me the antibiotics and said that would do. My insurance will not allow them to do more on that. Whatever that is wrong my doctor is saying that it is due to low blood pressure and my heart rate is to high. I don t think that is right. I just know I need to get better so I don t need to depend on others.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dizziness and black outs may be due to infection or hypotension or simple partial seizures or posterior circulation stroke or anemia or sick sinus syndrome etc. For confirmation of problem you may need 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, tilt tablet test, 24 hours EEG monitoring , blood pressure checking in sitting and lying down position. Take care while walking, avoid high risk activities, accompanied with one person while going back. Use tablet Vertin thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
