Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife who is 72 became ill last night. Her symptons
was dizzyness, sickness and diarrhoea which kept her a wake all night.
This morning I bought her some Imodium tablets which has settled the sickness and diarrhoea, but she is still suffering dizzyness. Can you please advise? she's 5 foot and weighs eight stone
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Diarrhea causes lots of dehydration and loss of electrolytes, both of which cause dizziness. Sickness is due to the septicemia one gets due to bacteria which cause diarrhea. Hence I would advise you the following for your ailing wife. Do not repeat Imodium as it only controls diarrhea but does not have any effect upon the bacteria causing diarrhea. Consult your Doctor, get stool and blood tests so that she gets a prescription of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics as required. Also needs symptomatic treatment with electrolyte solution, plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration. Ask her to use boiled and cooled water and eat only homemade fresh foods.
