What Causes Dizziness In An Elderly Person?

I m a 71 year old mail, very healthy. twice in the last 6 weeks I ve felt very lightheaded. fainted once and broke a chair. Second slumped to the floor and crawled to a rug where I rested for a minute or two before climbing up on a couch. After @ 20 minutes I got up, feeling fine, rest of the day has been fine. I ve worked without incident.

Hello!

Welcome on Healthcaremagic!

Your symptoms could be related to different possible causes (low blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension, a cardiac arrhythmia, chronic degenerations of the cervical spine, vertebro-basilar insufficiency, etc.).
For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical exam and performing some tests:
- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound
- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes
- kidney and liver function tests
- fasting glucose
- an EEG
- an ECG Holter monitoring
- a Head up Tilt test for possible orthostatic hypotension.

Meanwhile, I recommend you to monitor your blood pressure values and take plenty of water.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
I remain at your disposal for any further questions.
Kind regards, Dr. Aida
