What Causes Dizziness, Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain?
I am 75 years old & had what I thought to be heat exhaustion with chest pains during a 2 mile walk. I have continued to have light headiness, excessive sweating & fatigue & shortness of breath but no chest pains over the last 3 weeks. My GP ordered a lexiscan cardiolite stress test & the final impressions were Fixed apical defect without any areas of ischemia; No associated wall motion abnormalities; & Global LV ejection fraction of 66%. I will see a cardiologist in 2 weeks. Could you explain these findings? I am worried about a heart attack or did I already have one? Thank you Jon
Hello, The lexican report indicates that you have likely had some damage to the heart in the past. The finding of "fixed apical defect" means that there is a part of the heart (the apex) that is not getting adequate blood flow. This is usually due to scar tissue from a prior heart attack. No ischemia means that currently there are no severe blockages that may cause another heart attack. The finding of an LV ejection fraction of 66% means that your heart is pumping normally even though there was some damage. Overall, this is not a bad report. I agree with you seeing a cardiologist but you may also want to see a lung specialist if the shortness of breath persists. Regards
