Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dizziness With Loss Of Energy After Diagnosis For Enteric Fever?
My Uncle is 46. He collapsed six months ago and was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with acute enteric fever. He was hospitalized for two months and discharged. Since his discharge he has had about 6-7 cases of dizziness, momentary confusion and sudden loss of energy. When this happens he is hospitalized for a day or two, placed on drips and his regular medication, and released. He is a very active person and probably doesnt obey all doctors instructions to the letter [e.g in taking drugs as prescribed] and also tends to exert himself. Someone mentioned that it could get psychiatric and we are very concerned. Is there any risk of this? Also is there a diet he can use? Why does this loss of energy happen? Thanks.
CNS involvement is very rare complication of enteric fever, when systemic infection crosses the blood brain barrier and affect neuronal amines and other circuits.
The diet management at 6 months sound to be of much significant as to have adequate protein, iron, vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants. Excess dairy fat and spices should be avoided.
Hydration maintenance with control of vitals as blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol are very pivotal factors to keep in mind.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
