What Causes Double Vision And Nausea After Using Depakote 500 Mg?

I am convinced that Depakote is severely aggravating my Superior Oblique Myokymia as well as the double vision, nausea, immobility to drive and vomiting. Symptoms diminish with lower doses. Does evidence exist to support this as I will have to drop my 12 year Psychiatrist as I cannot function on this medicine?

Hello Dear. Depakote can cause blurred vision and double vision as side effects. Kindly consult your psychiatrist whether this drug has to be changed. But kindly do not stop it by yourself, since your body is now adopted to taking this medicine, (mainly given for seizures) sudden stoppage may cause recurrence of the past condition.

Common Depakote side effects may include:

1. mild nausea or vomiting, mild stomach pain, diarrhea;
2. headache, mild dizziness, weakness, tremors;
3. problems with balance or walking;
4. blurred vision, double vision; or
5. changes in appetite, weight gain.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: to Depakote hives; fever, swollen glands, mouth sores, difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if the person taking this medicine has early signs of liver or pancreas problems, such as: loss of appetite, upper stomach pain (that may spread to your back), ongoing nausea or vomiting, dark urine, swelling in the face, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these other side effects:

1. confusion, tiredness, cold feeling, vomiting, change in your mental state;
2. easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, or gums), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;
3. severe drowsiness;
4. worsening seizures;
5. signs of inflammation in your body - swollen glands, flu symptoms, 6. severe tingling or numbness, muscle weakness, chest pain, new or worsening cough with fever, trouble breathing; or
7. severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
