What Causes Drowsiness Post Bowel Resection?

My husband has had bowel cancer 4 years ago, they removed a third of his bowel and a number of lymph nodes. When I frist realised he wasn t well he was sleeping a lot and snappy, he has begun that behaviour again but without the pasty colour in his skin. I have noticed more and more frequently lately that after he has been to the toilet there are always floating clear brown coloured sort of like skin left behind in the bowl What could that be? The pieces used to be one or two , now they are larger and many 2cm x 1cm?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As the duration of surgery is 4 years, current drowsiness seems related to electrolyte imbalance, low hemoglobin or trace elements deficiency. Tissues found in bowel movements might be intestine infection related, the reappearance of malignancy or others. Needs a systemic approach to evaluate with lab tests, CT scan abdomen and colonoscopy to figure out a definite management plan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
