Hello and welcome to HCM
You have not mentioned your age, occupation or sex. Commonly such complaints are seen in ladies usually as a result of repeated exposure to detergents, cleaning agents. Other occupational exposure such as to rubber, tar, grease etc.
In such cases it is an allergic reaction to these things causing itching and breaking of the skin. You will need to continue the steroid cream such as mometasone or clobetasol for atleast 15-20 days till it clears well .But most importantly , the allergic substance has to be strictly avoided or it will keep coming back ,since your skin is sensitive to it. After washing, always keep skin moisturized(Moisturex cream etc). Take 15 days of an antihistamine like levocet 5mg at night.Use gloves during manual work.
Diabetes, drugs for diabetes and cholesterol, thyroid problems etc can cause skin changes but usually cause a general dryness and itching of the skin.smoking will reduce the good blood supply to your skin and age faster.
If you see no improvement in 2 weeks with the above tips, consult a dermatologist to test for infections, fungal infection etc.
If it is allergy(eczema), keep in mind that it has a tendency to recur and can be increase by various factors which you must note.
Hope this helps.
