What Causes Dry And Flaky Skin At The Area Around Stitches On My Finger?

I had stitches just about a week and a half ago on my finger. About two days ago two stitches came out, but no blood or anything. Now the area where the stiches were, the skin has become very dry and kind of flaked off. I can see really pink flesh beneath it. I am about to leave for vacation on Sunday...is this something to worry about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi,

thanks for writing to hcm.
Usually sutures are removed after 12-14 days of application. So , kindly visit your doctor and get the other stitches removed too. Make sure you are under antibiotic cover and the wound is cleaned and dressed daily to prevent any infections. Wound healing is a steady process and the pink flesh underneath will be covered by fibrous tissue by itself. Dont worry.

Regards Dr.Riyanka
