What Causes Drying And Closing Of Throat And Coughing?

My throat starts getting very dry and feels like there is something touching the back of my throat...then I start to cough and my throat locks up and I dry heave until I think I will pass out and then it suddenly releases..I was given the name of this condition several years ago but I can t remember it...it had stopped for a couple of years but has started up again..I have to keep hard candy or cough drops around to help stop it.
