Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of ear pop and throat tightening when driving high up are pointing towards a condition known as tonsillitis which occur due to upper respiratory track infection. Sometimes mucus due to infection travel from throat to Eustachian tube and give feeling of clogged ears .This condition is known as Eustachian tube disorder. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and to find out exact cause. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (penicillin or amoxicillin) course and decongestants. For now do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day and drink glass of warm water mix with one spoon of honey.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
