My 5 year old has tubes in his ear when he was about 1 years old and they came out sometime after 4 years old. Now is right ear is full of a yellowish wax build up and stinks really bad. He wants to itch at it. This just start about a month ago. He never had this yellowish wax build up before. We went to the doctor and she clean some of it out cause she could not see down his ear. She said it was a litttle red and gave him Amoxicillin. I asked why this is occuring and about the smell. I was advised that some kids that play outside get more wax buildup due to dust. My son hasnt been outside much due to a broken foot. The smells is bad enough to make you want to puke. I am thinking it is an ear infection and he needs ear drops.
From your explanation it looks like pus in his ears as your explanation of a foul smelling discharge from ears seems to be due to infection and pus discharge. Also redness is also pointing towards infection. So my suggestion is that he should continue taking antibiotic amoxicillin and along with it he should also take antibiotic ear drops. Manual cleaning of ears can be done and along with it he should also avoid excessive moisture exposure to ears. Also avoid putting ear buds inside the ear to avoid any injury to eardrum accidentally.
