Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my son is 6 years old and has a tedency to go of foods,he is a really funny eater will only eat softist foods no red meats at all, some times he bring his food back up after meals, i always though that it was that he feels sick becuase he not quite like what hes eaten if he thinks about food to much, his half brother had a narrowing of the food pipe from birth, do you think my son might have the same?
Children sometimes engage in this behavior of 'bringing food back up in mouth after meals'. It is called rumination. It is a known disorder in children and is reversible by simple behavior modification techniques. Preference for particular foods may be a simple food fad (liking for particular food). Since he is already grown up to 6 years of age without any significant problem in swallowing food inside, a narrowing of food pipe seems unlikely. A simple way to make children eat their meals is to time the meals regularly (same time everyday) and offer mostly food of choice along with some new food item every day. They learn to eat by imitation as well, when they see their siblings or peers eat all food types and getting appreciated/rewarded for that by the mother. Nevertheless, i will suggest you to pay a visit to you local pediatrician to allay any worries about his swallowing and rule out a regurgitation problem.
