What Causes Edema In The Legs Post A Hernia Surgery?

I had umbilical hernia surgery 3 years ago and everything seemed to go fine. now, I have developed edema in my legs and after a million tests, doctors have concluded nothing. My wife and I mentioned the surgery, with mesh of course, after all the stories of mesh failure. None seemed to think that was the issue. Kidney and liver tests were ok, being I am 64 years old, and cardiologist, after echos, said my heart appeared strong. Should I pursue this mesh thing since I would have to be cut open again to see if mesh is bad?

Spine Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

During hernia surgery, there is damage to lymphatics because of which fluid retention occurs in lower limbs. So if it not troubling you then nothing to be done and if it's bothering you then we can start diuretics which will decrease your edema.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anuj Gupta,
