What Causes Elder Patient To Stop Eating And Drinking?
my 92 year old mother wont eat or drink. she has low blood pressure and dementia. She lives in central IL. I live in FL It is not an easy trip to go back there for me. I am afraid if I don't go soon, she will be gone. Does her reluctance to eat mean that she is dying? My email is YYYY@YYYY ...I am broke so I guess I wont get any advice. sad Advise me please....Dora
First and most important thing is that you need to keep her happy. Most of the time parents at this age become upset because they don't get proper attention from their children. They become depressed due to loneliness. Secondly, ask her nicely what she wants to eat. Give her whatever she asks. If she is happy on liquids then you can arrange liquids BUT do not force her to eat or drink. She will never do so. Don't make her feel that she is ill. In this way she will not overcome this. Take her out for a walk once in a day if she is willing. It will change her environment and she will feel better.
If i were your attending doctor then i would have suggested you to manage time to spend with her at this stage of her life.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing her good health.
