What Causes Electric Shock Feeling In Heart?

I had an "Electric Shock" feeling in my heart last night. After reading all the information on the Internet i am not sure If It was an anxiety attack or something I should go to the emergency room? I have been worried about many things and have been taking care of family and all their medical Issues and also pets. You might say I am stressed out. I am 56 years young. I weigh 118 lbs and am 5'7" tall. I have not had health problems prior but am menopausal. So, have experienced some discomfort with flushing.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I will need some more information. Has it happened for the first time or recurrently, how long did it persists? Is it associated with nausea, vomiting, burning in chest, if yes it points towards acidity problem. Was there any profuse sweating associated, exertional chest pain, family history of heart disease, or smoking?

The possibilities are it can be acidity problem like GERD or may be heart related. You should get yourself examined, get BP checked, ECG done, also lipid profile and sugars. You may further need TMT test depending upon the results of these test. You can try some antacid like pantoprazole before breakfast till the time. Also keep tab sorbitrate sublingually, in case chest pain occurs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sagar Makode
