What Causes Electrical Shockwave Like Feeling Throughout The Body?

Every once in a while, I get these weird sensations that seem to start in my chest and reverberate first up to my head to the point of feeling like I m going to pass out, then south - a tingling sensation at my private area , then out to all my extremities. Like an electrical shockwave going through my body. Afterwards, I m a bit shaky and exhausted. I don t get them frequently but have had them now for a couple of years every couple months.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM.

The description of your symptoms is suggestive of something neurological. It is episodic and there may be a trigger to it. This doesn't sound like anything that fits a well known clinical condition. Therefore I would recommend a physician or neurological evaluation to understand this in more detail.

Typically the occurrence of these electrical shock wave sensations are called Lhermitte's sign that occur in multiple sclerosis after a trigger that is initiated by bending of the head. It is due to the stretch of the spine pressing on the posterior column in the vertebra. This may need to be ruled out in your case. other causes of similar symptoms can be possible in vitamin B12 deficiency or calcium deficiency.

Do have these evaluated.

Hope this information was helpful. Do let me know if you have any other concerns.
