What Causes Elevated PTH Levels?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with a metabolic genetic disorder called arginosuccinicacidura (ASA) for 10 years now and am followed yearly for checkups, during routine bloodwork my PTH levels came abnormal at a level of 8.7 pmol/L when last years PTH level was at a 2.5 pmol/L and has never been elevated until this point. I have a history of low b12 (111 pmol/L) & low vitamin D (45 nmol/L) currently, but no history of abnormally low / high calcium (currently at 2.47mmol/L) I was doing some research and hyperparathyroidism was the main concensus of what I could find, I was wondering if I should be worried or not

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I suggest you to first manage your low B 12 vitamin and especially low vitamin D level. These may be the reason (vitamin D) of the increase in parathyroid hormonal levels. You can do again parathyroid hormonal levels(PTH) level after regulation of vitamin D levels and if it comes to normal values ,than the problem has been to low vitamin D level.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
